Robin South. I didn’t decide to become an artist, it was decided for me by my DNA. My earliest childhood memories include drawing, painting and “making things”. As a child you don’t understand what drives you to use your creativity, it simply is part of your being. The desire to develop my creativity led me to attend Ringling School of Art, in Sarasota, Florida. A career in advertising art direction and graphic design beckoned, and following a tour of duty with the US Army, I headed to New York City. After a few years on Madison Avenue, a job opportunity presented itself in Atlanta, Georgia. Off I went and never left. Since 1986 my wife and I have had our own advertising creative service company. Advertising has been the professional outlet for my creativity, but during all those years I kept “making things”.
In 1986 my wife and I bought a 100 year old home in Grant Park, Atlanta, Georgia. As I renovated the home, I gradually amassed a pretty impressive collection of wood working tools. Over time I started to design and build a cabinet here, a table there, and other items for the house. I also found it very rewarding to design and build gifts for friends and family. It wasn’t long before these friends and family were encouraging me to not just “make things”, but to sell them. Robin’s Originals was born.

Now in retirement everything I have learned about design, shape, texture and color goes into creating the unique pieces I make. I build things to challenge my craftsmanship and to further develop a very personal aesthetic. I believe there are endless possibilities to create 3-dimensional textures and shapes that will make my furniture and accessories a special addition to any home or office.
